The revitalisation of the Hampton Station Precinct is on track to becoming reality, with the appointment of epc Pacific to carry out the works. The project is designed to make the precinct safer, more attractive and more accessible for commuters and the local community by creating a mixed-use residential and retail development on under-utilised land adjacent to the station.

Part of the proceeds from the development will fund transport improvements, which could include station upgrades, the creation of a station forecourt and public plaza, an improved bus interchange and a new commuter car parking facility. A section of the site is also owned by the Director of Housing, with some of the development proceeds funding improvements to public housing.

The project is being delivered by VicTrack as part of the Victorian Government’s Station Precinct Enhancement Program (SPEP).

Last year VicTrack, in collaboration with Bayside City Council, engaged community and commuters in a place-making process to help shape a vision for the future of the precinct. The two agencies developed a set of principles and values to guide the future development of the Hampton Willis Street Precinct, which includes the Hampton Station Precinct. Community consultation will continue later this year, when people will have the opportunity to comment on the preliminary designs for the station precinct.

Any development at Hampton is required to be commercially feasible and should the development proceed, it will not alter the frequency or nature of rail services.

“The Station Precinct Enhancement Program allows the Government to improve transport infrastructure without the need for taxpayer funds. In short, it makes areas around stations more attractive places to visit, live and socialise. The development of the Hampton Station Precinct will revitalise the area around the station and provide the community with shops, housing and public spaces, on the doorstep of public transport. We have already spoken with local people about what they envisage as part of their station precinct, and we will continue to consult with them throughout the detailed design process so the development has the opportunity to reflect the character and wishes of the local community” stated Jacinta Allan, Minister for Public Transport.

Managing Director of epc.Pacific, Patrick Smith stated “ Our team is genuinely excited to have been chosen to partner with the Government on this innovative development. The regeneration and activation of this site will further encourage and embellish the vibrancy and energy of Hampton Village whilst also delivering a new depth of housing diversity. We look forward to progressing the evolution of the project and aligning the project vision and outcomes to create value for each stakeholder,”

Minister for Housing, Martin Foley said “The Victorian Government is looking forward to working with epc Pacific on a proposal that will ensure affected older residents living in public housing near Hampton Station will benefit from any redevelopment. As the development progresses, we will continue to work with affected residents to ensure they get to have their say on the proposals and that disruption is kept to a minimum.”
